What is Southampton like for a student?

Hi I was wondering if anybody could tell me what Southampton is like for a student?

Things like

-Safety
-Nightlife
-Shopping
-things to do
-chavyy???

I'm not a student in Southampton but I live nearby. Safety - It's not too bad for a largish town except around the nightclubs. Nightlife - pubs and nightclubs Shopping- Two large shopping malls, including the biggest John Lewis outside London Things to do - Sailing; trips to Isle of Wight; Bournemouth beaches not far away; New Forest easy connections to London local airport for links to Europe; Salisbury and Winchester nearby. Chavvy - Like all largish towns, there are quite a few chavs but most people are pretty normal!
