I’m a 13 year old girl living in Cowes, Isle of Wight and I really need to start earning money. I would like to be a waitress but I’m not sure if I will be too young!
How old do you have to be to become a part time waitress and what will I need to take when looking for a job?
Thanks <3 x

  1. Age 13 for certain limited work, and limited hours, but first you have to find your cafe. Also you need a permit to be allowed to work, you apply to the Local Council for this. Isle of Wight I suspect allows you to work in cafe's because of the nature of it being a Holiday destination, and relies on Visitors for a lot of its income. Certainly you can't work where they sell alcohol. This is the official Government say on the matter, I notice the link from Granville is to some bloke with a Cafe elsewhere in the Country, load of well meaning codswallop. https://www.gov.uk/child-employment/restrictions-on-child-employment And Jack is talking 100% tripe

You need to be 18 in the UK to earn a wage commercially! Underage is illegal.

You can’t work as a waitress at 13 – if you check the website of the Isle of Wight local council it will tell you what work 13 year olds can do in their area.
