  1. As "Pirate princess" correctly says you will need to book via "Red Funnel" to go to the Island via Southampton, it is the best of the car ferries in my view and does the best breakfasts. I would suggest booking on-line and for off peak to get the best price. Indeed i nearly always go via by that route when taking a car. "P...P..." has given you the link for the website. People have walked around the Island, indeed i remember a former bus inspector who used to do it regularly for charity in the 60s and 70s, it used to take him approx 20 hours but he was a very fast walking chap.. "Wha" has obviously never visited the Island or he wouldn't talk such utter rubbish. I wish you luck and hope you enjoy your holiday on the |Island.

the isle of wight is very small.
    you can walk everywhere.
    you need not a car.
    you need not a reservation.

It is the most expensive pice of water to cross in the world, or so I’ve heard, I can see the Isle of Wight from my upstairs window and my husband goes there a lot for work.

Red Funnel is your best bet from Southampton, if you book in advance it can be cheaper, and if you are disabled it is even cheaper still, but you wont find a cheap crossing to the island, sorry.

Edit: you could not walk all round the island, mabe if you are 20 and super fit with a few days to spare……

Also, the Hovercraft is very quick and goes into Ryde, but you wont be able to take a car, same with the Fast Cat.

Sorry, but there is no such thing as a cheap ferry crossing to the Isle of Wight!! The ferries have always been fairly expensive…but Red Funnel used to offer the better deals….or, if you haven’t yet booked accommodation, when you do book, they sometimes offer a discounted ferry crossing.
