How big a mistake is saying “I’m basically from North Carolina” instead of originally?

  1. To me 'basically' would mean that you had been in N C in early life and had many connections there, but had also been in other places during your formative years . Not really a mistake, just a difference in emphasis. But note that I'm British, real Americans may think differently. I'm originally (or basically) from the Isle of Wight, off the coast of southern England, but I have lived in several parts of southern England and in Australia.

    Saying basically infers that you are not sure or that you are from somewhere else too not just North Carolina.

    It kinda means that most of you is from north carolina and could leave people wondering where the rest of you comes from.

    You mean replace “basically” with “originally”? A big mistake.

    “I’m originally from North Carolina” tells me you were born and maybe raised in NC.
    “I’m basically from North Carolina” makes you sound like an idiot who doesn’t know where they live.
