  1. The Queen and Prince Philip do. When the Queen is "in", her Royal Standard flag flies from the roof of the Palace so we all know! And other members of the family have apartments there for when they are in London. But at weekends, they go to Windsor Castle and in fact most of the family prefer it. Prince Andrew said once that they think of Windsor Castle as being more "home". Buckingham Palace actually hasn't been a palace for very long. Queen Victoria was the first monarch to properly move in, and after Prince Albert died she hardly ever went there, preferring Windsor or her seaside home at Osborne House on the Isle of Wight (which isn't a royal home any more and is open to the public - I have relatives a short walk away and I've been there). Buckingham Palace has certain problems as a home - one problem Prince Philip had to do something about was why the kitchens are so far from the family's dining room, so food always arrived cold - but it's convenient to be close to Parliament for the Queen's weekly meeting with the Prime Minister. They also always go to Sandringham House in Norfolk for Christmas and it's a standard photo-opportunity for the press to take pictures of them going to the little church at Sandringham on Christmas morning. Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall live in Clarence House, just along the road from Buckingham Palace, where the Queen Mother used to live, and at Highgrove House in Gloucestershire: Prince Andrew lives in Royal Lodge at Windsor: and Prince Edward and Sophie and their children live in a large house in Surrey. Some "minor royals" have apartments in Kensington Palace.

Most of the time it’s Buckinham Palace I think, but there’s castles all over the UK that they stay in from time to time.
I personally wish they would go live in a basement somewhere…

The Queen does not consider Buckingham Palace as her home, she does have bedrooms, changing rooms, and sitting and dining rooms there, but she thinks of it like living above the store. Her home is Windsor Castle, but she privately owns Balmoral Palace and Sandringham House.

She stays in Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh for one week a year to emphasize that she is the queen of the entire UK including Scotland.

Some of the time, they call Buckingham home…Well, the Queen does. The younger generation have their own homes. They move out when they become adults, like most young people do.

The Queen also calls Windsor Castle home…that’s (reportedly) where she is most comfortable. And they often go to other castles…hunting and fishing at Balmoral, in Scotland, and Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, Sandringham, Wait! Here’s a complete and official list.

The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh still do when they’re in London, you can tell when they are in residence as the royal standard is flown rather than the Union Jack.

While they were children (and until they married {for the first time with Anne or Charles}) The Prince of Wales and his siblings lived there as well and still have apartments within the Palace that they can use.

Buckingham Palace is HM’s London residence. She does have many others. such as Balmoral, Sandringham, and Holyrood House (the last one is in Scotland).

Many of the Royal Family also have offices at Buckingham Palace.
