UK: Does your county have a local radio station?

Is there a local radio station for most counties in the UK?

At the end of the BBC weather forecast, there is a suggestion that we should listen to our local BBC radio stations for details of road & school closures etc. Good idea – if there is one!

Many counties seem to have a local BBC station e.g. radio Devon, Isle of Wight, Berkshire, Hereford & Worcester. There is no equivalent station for the county in which I live; how many other counties do not have their own radio station?

Does your county have its own station and is it useful to you, particularly when there are local problems?

  1. It would be useful if you said where you live. Then we may be able to recommend something for you. My local radio station is useful for the weather forecast and traffic reports. Apart from that I don't listen to it because their presenters are banal and more interested in their own babble than their listeners.

No. Well there is Radio solent but its not exactly Hampshire.

However there are lots of independent stations that are pretty good with weather, traffic etc so I cant moan.

I normally only listen go local radio for traffic reports in my car. The car scans for them abd plays them –

I live in Fife, Scotland. It is known as The Kingdom Of Fife. There is a local radio station called Kingdom FM which is very good, plays all sorts of music and has features teling us what’s on and where.

We have about 4 I believe.

None of them called Yorkshire in the name.

BBC Radio Leeds covers West Yorkshire,
    Sheffield covers South Yorkshire,
York Covers North Yorkshire upto Teesside,
Radio Humberside allows people in Lincolnshire to pretend they are Yorkshirefolk, along with East Yorkshire.

Radio Tees overlaps with Radio York, but also ensures Whitby is well covered, and broadcasts to Durham as well as Teeside itself.

But only to be expected from God’s own County, they will be gearing up to cover (and Welcome) the Tour De France in the Summer.

Yes, we do have. I find it super when it comes to local things like travel reports and in the winter they do a fantastic job of keeping us informed of the travel situation, as well as cancelled events etc.

We used to have a local BBC station, but not sure if we still do – I never listen to it so have no clue if it is still on air! I way prefer the independant station.

If your post code is DT you will be Dorset. The link is to several local radio stations in that area.Just click on the one you want.
I think there is a local radio for most places in the UK,either the BBC or private. I dont personally listen to radio ar I am deaf. and can only watch the TV with a bothersome aid.
