  1. The Isle of Wight is a large island off the south coast of England. If you look at a map of England then it is right at the bottom, in the middle, opposite Southampton. Famous for The Needles, chalk stacks which remain on the westerly end of the Island, dinasaur fossils and Alum Baywhich is made up of a fabulous range of naturally coloured sand - used for glassware and making marbles! You get to it by (car) ferry either from Portsmouth to Cowes on the East of the island or from Lymington to Yarmouth on the West of the island. There is a foot passenger ferry, the Puffin, which goes from Lymington to Yarmouth. People also sail in large dinghies or yachts. Among other things, it is reknown for its regatta at the beginning of August, called "Cowes Week" which attracts boats from all over the world, in all classes. It has a Music Festival some years in August which competes with Glastonbury and has equally good groups. Other than that it is a thriving island with a resident population of 125,000 and a large moving population of holiday makers and staff for the holiday trade. Oh, and its own Radio Station!
